HS World Literature

Travel around the world through literature. We will be reading more contemporary books and excerpts of writings, with some classics, as we look at different areas of the world and cultures through literature.

Homework will be necessary, with weekly assigned reading. Class work will involve keeping a detailed literature reading journal which will include; maps, character study, vocabulary, themes, important quotes, and short essays.

Also, we will discover things that relate to the books we are reading, like eating chocolate from the Middle East or drinking tea from England. Writing a paper in the MLA format will be part of the second semester, while we build up to that in the first semester.

First semester books are:

Two Old Women

Everything Sad is Untrue

Sense and Sensibility

  Instructor: Young, Joyce
  Instructor Bio:
My name is Joyce Young. I homeschooled my children from preschool through high school and loved every minute of it! For the last five years I have worked part-time in a private school doing intervention, special ed. resource room work, and substitute teaching where needed. I have a degree in General Studies with a minor in history. I am very happy to be back in the homeschool community of Palaestra and have great memories from when my kids were here.
