Music Appreciation
 Introduction to the four Instrument Families of the Orchestra: Acquire knowledge of the different instrument families in the orchestra. Develop visual and auditory recognition of specific instruments within the four instrument families. Acquire key facts about how they were invented historically and how they are made.
Introduction to Great Composers from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern musical eras. Visual and auditory recognition of composer and composer’s music. Acquire key facts about composer’s life and knowledge of the historical period in which they lived.
Introduction to Basic Music Theory
  Understand the fundamental elements of music composition, such as, melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics.
Fine and Gross Motor Skill Development
Apply and cement music appreciation and theory concepts learned where applicable through various fine gross motor development activities
Fine Motor: creation of instrument family and composer timeline lapbooks.
Gross Motor: Music play and movement with bean bags, rhythm sticks, and other activities and tools.
 
 

   
  Instructor: Maceno, Sherri
  Instructor Bio:
  Sherri Maceno has a passion for her Lord Jesus Christ, her family, local and world missions and the creative arts. She has a lifelong appreciation of music and desires to cultivate that same desire in the children she teaches as she points them to the Creator of all things along the way. She holds a BA from Michigan State University in Human Resources from 1995, and has completed extensive graduate work in the College of Education at George Washington University in Human Resources and Organizational Development from 2001 – 2004.. She also received her SPHR , Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from HRCI and University of Maryland in 2001. After working for over 15 years in the Human Resources field she began homeschooling her three children and taught music and movement at the Compass Cottage School and Studio Ministry of Berean Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoys helping her husband with their Levanjil discipleship ministry to Haiti, visiting art museums, attending concerts and plays, reading and dancing at home.
