  Brain Games

~~This course is designed to stimulate and increase brain development and reasoning skills through critical thinking and problem-solving activities and exercises. Some are socially interactive; others are individual, such as problem-of-the-week, but all are aligned with the higher order thinking skills of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Students will creatively explore the use of geoboards, categorizing, sequencing, crossing the midline, comparing similarities and differences, plotting x and y coordinates (as in the game Battleship), matching, origami, completing patterns, braille text, sign language, topographical orientation (map-reading skills), and a weekly estimation jar. Data, chance, and probability may also be covered if time permits.

  Instructor Bio:
I am Doreen Jacobsen and my passion is to to creatively interact and teach younger children. I have taught first grade for several years in Detroit and substitute taught kindergarten through fifth grade before that. I have18 grad level credits towards my Masters Degree but raised kids instead of finishing that pursuit. I especially enjoy teaching almost any subject in which I can make learning stimulating and FUN !!! I especially love teaching my interactive geography class, AROUND THE WORLD, because I believe God has used so much creativity and diversity (not to mention humor ) in creating all the peoples and nations of His world, my personal favorite. My "FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY MADE" human anatomy class ( not available now) is personally motivating as well, and the students seem to get a lot out of that class too. BRAIN GAMES helps me keep my mental faculties young as your children and I enjoy stimulaing exercises for our minds. Above all, though, I love inviting the person of Christ into our classroom so that HE receives the glory for all learning and prized relationships that form as I also learn from these beautiful, young, and intelligent kids. Parents are always welcome to join us in the learning process too, pop in any time.
