  Kali/Eskrima Filipino Martial Arts

Kali/Eskrima is the indigenous art of the Philippines, developed the over centuries in defending the nation. This class is designed with the Filipino Martial Arts [FMA] as a platform for personal development, utilizing realistic FMA training to develop students physically, emotionally and spiritually. The ideal FMA practitioner is an individual who places their community above themselves, exemplify the person who is able to use analytical abilities to solve difficult situations for the benefit of the community and train in FMA in order to develop the skills needed to do so.
This class is the first level in providing a transition point for beginners to experience FMA and to possibly enter Guro Joe’s Bayani Warrior training group; suitable and intended for individuals interested in applying what they’ve learned without the worry of sustaining serious injury like many other arts. Students are taught the basic strikes, angles and mindset of FMA for self defense. This level contains conditioning drills designed to enhance the student’s fitness and confidence in responding to dangerous situations.  The culture created encourages “family” as the prominent factor - not only within the training, but within the student’s personal life, “seeking to live the ideals of the hero...one who lives not just for themselves, but for the good of others around them.” Material fee covers the cost of equipment.   Training Requirements • Students are required to follow primary [personal] and secondary [public] protocols; • be attentive at all times, willing and able to take direction to ensure safety during training sessions/classes; • must address and show respect to the instructor, fellow students, facility and equipment at all times during and outside of the training sessions; • FMA students are to understand that their actions not only represent and reflect themselves, but everyone they are associated with; • Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of the classes, excused only for extreme situations.
