Class Information

  Passport to France

This class is a basic introduction to French for young children.

If your child is able to write a complete sentence, as well as read short paragraphs independently, then they will be properly equipped to pursue this material.

The curriculum we will be using allows children to successfully engage the material at home regardless of if they have parental guidance available. Each child will need to purchase their own workbook which will be used during both fall and spring semesters. This book can be purchased online or at various bookstores. This workbook engages children with its various forms of visually enticing activities, complete with its own dictionary, removable flashcards and more fun surprises! Purchase of this book includes a free digital download of interactive modules that allow the students to delve deeper in the language with online games and audio activities. The interactive software that comes with it is optional for parents who wish to have their children work on this material at home throughout the week.

I will also provide them one laminated lesson plan that will serve as a handy bookmark and a guide for parents to keep track of what your child is learning each week. At the end of the year, your child will be well equipped to act as your family tour guide if you went to France!

  Instructor: Garfield, Whitney
  Instructor Bio:
Bonjour! My name is Whitney. While not a native speaker, I worked and studied in France for five years, igniting a passion for all things French- the culture, the people, and their beautiful language. After earning a diploma and various language certifications through the University of La Rochelle, I then spent three years in Bordeaux, studying Foreign Applied Linguistics. I am well acquainted with many of the Palaestra staff, and grateful to them for this unique privilege of teaching French to your children- in smaller classes, within a Christian context. The curriculum will be both flexible, and integrative, meeting your child wherever they are, and immersing them as deeply as our time together will allow. Along with these classes, I will also offer tutoring.
