High School Writing will assist students in gaining mastery of several functions that are essential for young writers to be successful when pursuing a higher level of education, on the job, or even via electronic communication.  This class is open to all students in grades 9-12, along with younger students with an advanced proficiency in writing.  The first semester will focus on the fundamentals of paragraph and essay structure along with the critical element of word-choice.  Other instrumental information that will be included in the first semester is the proper use of punctuation, the value of unbiased research, and instruction on writing various forms of expository works.  The class requires no textbook; however, students will be required to obtain a binder, line paper, and adequate pencils/pens.  Students will be required to keep an organized writing notebook that will include their notes, written assignments, and handouts provided by the instructor.
