Club S.W.A.P. (Spoken Word And Poetry)
This class will empower students to communicate creatively, speak
more confidently, increase self-awareness and promote self-esteem
through expressive writing. Natasha "Beautiful Thought" Sansom is a
speaker, spoken soul poet, and winner of the National Poetry Award
in 2012, Christian Poet of the Year. Ms. Sansom will teach the
students many forms of poetry that incorporates writing sessions,
during class, corresponding to the learned forms of poetry. They will
learn which books of the Bible are considered poetry, review
grammar, begin to use metaphors, similes, alliteration, rhyme, and so
much more. A variety of creative techniques will be used to engage
the youth in learning and practicing skills needed for writing.
As the class develops rapport and increases trust, the participants will
increasingly be lead toward greater self-discovery and increased
self-esteem. The individuals will be empowered through the listening
and appreciation as a group of their words and stories. They will learn
to live more authentically and increase their creativity, self-esteem,
and writing (language arts) skills.
The youth will present writings in front of the group (oral and creative
art form) and at the holiday and spring concerts. Throughout the
sessions poetry will shared by the instructor of both her and the work
of national and local poets.

This class is adaptable for all of the following groups:
spelling challenges, dyslexic, auditory processing difficulty
